May 16th, 2020 - To celebrate National Love A Tree Day, we are excited to announce that The Knot Pillow is going green!

According to Forbes, shipping accounts for up to 3% of global emissions and 10% of transport emissions – roughly the same as aviation – and is an integral part of the global economy, transporting around 80% of the world’s trade in physical goods.
As our business grew those past 6 months, more and more orders going to our Knot Lovers from across the country, made us think. Think about what impact our business has on the environment and think about what could be done about it. Since Earth Day, thanks to Shopify, we are proud to announce that we are carbon neutral!

What does carbon neutrality mean?

Everything in our daily lives has a carbon footprint, and we at The Knot Pillow wants to take our responsibility and join the fight against climate change by offsetting the C02 emissions produced by shipping your orders. Carbon neutral shipping is one important strategy for achieving that, as the transportation sector is a major contributor to carbon dioxide levels.
We understand that offsetting our carbon footprint is not fixing the issue itself and doesn't replace other actions to actually reduce our impact but shipping is, unfortunately, part of something we cannot change and that's why we made that decision. We will try to implement additional measures as our business grow.

How does it work and what tools are we implementing?

Our partnership with Offset by Shopify enables our business to calculate the C02 emissions and understand the impact on the environment every order makes. Offset combines data from our online store with industry data and peer-reviewed models to determine how much CO2 of our shipments is released into the environment and then works with Pachama to determine the cost of offsetting those emissions. Once the cost is determined, the funds go the Jarí Para REDD+ Avoided Unplanned Deforestation project in the Amazon Rainforest, which is a Verified Carbon Standard project certified by Pachama.
